METRIC MIKEY’S WEDNESDAY WORD

PIXEL – or as they call them, ‘the dots’….

“As CNBC explained in 2018, Meta uses tiny pixels that publishers and businesses embed on their websites. The dots send a message back to Facebook when you visit. And it allows companies to target ads to people based on sites they previously visited.”

This is the article that inspired the Wednesday word…pixel. But SOOO much has happened with pixels in this short week that this has/will turn in to a much longer post.

Suffice to say, what was a (semi) harmless ‘1X1’ invisible image file that was added to web pages back in the early 2000’s (maybe earlier, who knows), has now grown into a monster with potentially astronomical legal implications ahead (yeah, a bit overly dramatic. I get it. I’ve just spent a LOT of time this week thinking about data capture).
