METRIC MIKEY’S TUESDAY TIP (TWOFER)

GA4 fun today! It is so easy to update your basic tagging settings (well, once you know where they are). From the ‘Property Settings’ section in the Admin page of your GA4 account, select ‘Data Streams’ and click on the stream you want to update. Scroll down and select ‘Additional Settings’.

We’re not talking about the Events options today, just these two tips:

1 – Configure your domains – Use this to add domains that should be part of your site, so they aren’t seen as ‘Outbound Clicks (leaving your site).

2 – Define internal traffic – Use this to filter your internal traffic by IP address(es). And there is even a ‘What’s my IP address?’ link so you don’t have to Google it.

Bonus – Once you are done with that, since you are already there, scroll up and click the ‘gear’ icon to see the ‘Enhanced measurement’ settings. If you have a site search feature on your site that uses the POST method (e.g. passes the search term in the URL), scroll down to the ‘Site Search’ section to make sure it is enabled. Then click ‘Show advanced settings’ to make sure the parameter you are using is listed. If you don’t know if you are using the POST method or, if so, what the parameter is, just do a search on your site and look at the URL.
